Escape Chengdu for a lighter taste of West Sichuan on this private 2-day journey.
Walk through Taoping Qiang Village with a local Qiang minorities elder, stay overnight near the mountains, and explore Bipenggou’s snow peaks, forests, lakes and valleys the next day.
West Sichuan does not always have to mean a long, demanding journey. This private 2-day tour offers a lighter and more comfortable introduction to the mountains west of Chengdu, combining natural scenery with local Qiang culture.
The journey begins at Taoping Qiang Village, one of the best places to experience the architecture and daily traditions of the Qiang people. Instead of simply walking through the village as a tourist site, the visit is guided by a local Qiang elder, offering a more personal view of stone houses, village lanes, family life, local customs and the stories behind this ancient mountain community.
After staying overnight near Lixian or Gurgou, the second day brings you into Bipenggou, a scenic valley known for snow-capped mountains, forests, streams, lakes and seasonal colours. The visit is arranged at a comfortable pace, using scenic-area transport and selected light walking sections to enjoy the landscape without turning the day into a strenuous hike.
This journey is ideal for travellers who want to see a softer side of West Sichuan — mountain scenery, minority culture and local life — without committing to a longer or more complicated high-altitude route.

Itinerary:
Day 1 — Chengdu → Taoping Qiang Village → Lixian / Gurgou
Depart from Chengdu in the morning by private vehicle and travel west towards the mountain region of Aba.
Your first cultural stop is Taoping Qiang Village. Known for its stone houses, narrow lanes and ancient Qiang architectural style, the village offers a very different view of Sichuan from Chengdu’s urban rhythm.
The visit will be led by a local Qiang elder from the village. Through her introduction, the village becomes more than a scenic stop: you will learn how families live within the stone buildings, how the lanes and watchtower-like structures were shaped by mountain life, and how Qiang traditions continue in everyday details such as food, household space, clothing, beliefs and hospitality.
After the village visit, continue to Lixian or Gurgou for check-in. The evening is kept relaxed, allowing time to rest and enjoy the quieter mountain atmosphere.
Day 2 — Bipenggou Valley → Chengdu
After breakfast, travel to Bipenggou Scenic Area.
Bipenggou offers a compact but rewarding view of West Sichuan’s natural scenery, with snow-capped peaks, forested slopes, clear streams, lakes and open valleys. Depending on the season, the landscape may show autumn colours, snow scenery, fresh mountain air or bright alpine views.
The visit will combine scenic-area transport with selected light walking sections, so the day remains comfortable and flexible. There will be time for photography, short walks and quiet appreciation of the mountain landscape.
In the afternoon, return to Chengdu by private vehicle.
