Most travelers come to Jiuzhaigou for its famous blue lakes, waterfalls and forests.
This journey goes further.
Jiuzhaigou Origins is one of U2Panda Tour’s signature journeys in northern Sichuan, designed for travelers who want to understand not only the beauty of Jiuzhaigou, but also the highland cultures, villages, crafts and spiritual traditions that surround it.
Instead of treating Jiuzhaigou as a single scenic park, this 5-day journey opens the wider world behind the landscape: the old trading town of Songpan, a local leather-making heritage workshop, Huanglong’s mineral pools, the fairytale waters of Jiuzhaigou, Baima Tibetan village traditions, Zhongcha Valley, and a quiet blessing experience at Garmi Temple.
It is a journey from scenery to meaning — from the famous lakes to the human stories behind them.
Why This Journey Is Special
Jiuzhaigou is often described as a fairyland. But beyond the postcards, this region has a deeper identity shaped by mountains, water, Tibetan and Baima communities, local craftsmanship, village rituals and highland belief.
This route was created to connect three layers of northern Sichuan:
The natural landscape
Jiuzhaigou’s lakes and waterfalls, Huanglong’s travertine pools, alpine forests and mountain scenery.
The living culture
Songpan leather craft, Baima Tibetan village life, local hospitality, traditional dance, masks and food.
The spiritual highland world
Prayer flags, Tibetan temples, lamp offerings and the quiet atmosphere of mountain belief.
For travelers who have already seen the classic sights of China, this journey offers something more personal and memorable: a deeper way to experience Jiuzhaigou.
Journey Highlights
Songpan Leather-Making Heritage Experience
Begin the journey in Songpan, an old highland town where different cultures once met through trade, migration and mountain routes.
Here, visit a local leather-making workshop and meet a heritage craftsman. Songpan leather craft reflects the practical life and aesthetic traditions of the Tibetan highlands. Through a hands-on experience, travelers can learn how local materials, patterns and craftsmanship are transformed into meaningful objects.
This is not a souvenir stop. It is an introduction to the cultural roots of the region.
Huanglong: Colorful Pools Beneath the Mountains
Visit Huanglong, one of Sichuan’s most unique natural wonders. Mineral-rich water flows down the valley and forms layered travertine pools in shades of blue, green, gold and white.
Compared with Jiuzhaigou’s forest lakes, Huanglong feels more open, mineral and highland-like. Its pools, mountain views and alpine atmosphere create a powerful contrast before entering Jiuzhaigou.
Jiuzhaigou Valley: The Iconic Fairyland
Spend a full day inside Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park.
Clear lakes, waterfalls, forests, reflections and mountain views make Jiuzhaigou one of China’s most beautiful natural destinations. Your guide will adjust the route according to season, weather, park conditions and visitor flow, helping you enjoy the main scenic areas at a comfortable pace.
This is the classic Jiuzhaigou experience — but in this journey, it becomes part of a much larger story.
Baima Tibetan Village: Culture Beyond the Scenic Park
Travel beyond the national park and enter the world of the Baima Tibetan people, one of the most distinctive cultural communities in the Jiuzhaigou region.
Through village visits, local hospitality, traditional dance, mask culture and community interaction, travelers can experience a side of Jiuzhaigou that most visitors never see.
This is where the journey becomes more than sightseeing. It becomes a meeting with the people who live in the mountains.
Zhongcha Valley and Garmi Temple Blessing
Visit Zhongcha Valley, a quieter Tibetan village area near Jiuzhaigou. Prayer flags, local homes, forest paths and mountain scenery reveal a slower rhythm of life.
Continue to Garmi Temple for a Tibetan Buddhist lamp blessing experience. In a peaceful temple setting, learn about the meaning of offering lamps, prayers and local spiritual practice.
It is a quiet and meaningful ending to the journey — a moment to slow down, reflect and carry blessings back from the highlands.
